Although current Covid restrictions allow us to meet face to face, many members are being cautious as the Omicron numbers grow. Accordingly we saw only 16 members and one guest present at last weeks meeting, However, despite the low number, once again the gathered enjoyed the meeting. The planned Working Bee at Apirana Reserve last weekend was cancelled. However, a new date should be known soon so watch this space for more detail. The Trivia Night has been postponed again, (new date to be advised when known), but we are still keen to hold this important fundraising event, so as soon as possible a new date will be selected. District Conference is still scheduled to go ahead, but there is a risk this event too will be cancelled. Updates will continue to be advised as early as possible. Unfortunately, again our own meeting plans were disrupted by Covid, this time impacting on our planned speaker last week. However, due to the tenacity of our Club Services Director, Robyn, at very short notice, a replacement speaker was secured and we were delighted to welcome a Rotary Youth Exchange "Rebounder", Emily Lit to speak to us. Emily spent a year as a RYE student in Denmark in 2017 / 2018 and during her talk she recalled some of the highlights of her exchange year. She had a great year and she continues to look back at the memories of friends made, the wonderful host families she had, the European excursions experienced, and the class trip from Denmark to South Korea which was a significant highlight. On her return to New Zealand she went to University and secured a Batchelors Degree in Fine Arts when she graduated in 2020. Emily is currently employed by a company call Affinity Diamonds, in a sales role Affinity are a relatively new business in New Zealand, but they have been operating in Australia for over 30 years. The company specialises in the design and manufacture of engagement rings, and considering her next significant goal is getting married, Affinity could be just the right employer!! Sincere thanks to Emily for stepping up at very short notice nd sharing with us how being a RYE Student has helped shape her life, and hopefully we can stay in touch and hear from you again at sometime in the not too distant future. |
