The Presidents' Pen

Co-Presidents St. Johns Rotary, Penny McGarry (Ph: 021 702 310), and Lesley Harris (Ph: 027 4935 498)

Charlie and George welcomed us warmly to their Cafe this morning with a breakfast that was much enjoyed by all along with the usual St Johns fellowship and banter!

Admittedly it felt like night time when we got there as  it was still dark, but dawn broke and a beautiful day blossomed!

Business was at a minimum and there was no speaker, but a good time was had by all and it was lovely to support a local business who had served our Community well over the last 2 years.

A reminder our very own Simon Jones is the speaker at next weeks dinner meeting,

We can't wait!
Stories
Meeting in Review - March 31st 2022
Although not a huge crowd it was great to see a good turnout for our off-site meeting last week and there were even more attendees than at the previous meeting, so well done to all for organizing and for turning up!

Co-President Penny welcomed us and invited Directors to provide updates if any.

Tom once again reminded all that the deadline for nominating RYLA Candidates this year was rapidly approaching.  To date only one completed application has been received and the deadline for submitting nominations is the end of April,  All members are asked to think of any potential candidates and contact Tom asap.

Members were reminded that May 9th, is the date for our Annual Debate with Auckland East, this year to be hosted by Auckland  East at their dinner meeting.  In what must have been near a record, the St. Johns team was elected on the spot without any pressure, bribery or corruption and congratulations to Lynette, Angus and Dave for volunteering to take on the enormous challenge of winning the trophy in an away from home environment.  We look forward to having a good turnout to support our team.

Club Meetings and Other Important Dates
THURSDAY 7th APRIL - DINNER MEETING:  SIMON JONES:  Come and hear how Club Member Simon spends some of his time when not working with Dove Hospice.

"After several years developing and advocating for this proposal with Auckland Council, AT and Orakei Local Board it is exciting to commence public consultation (referencing our project) to establish a new electric ferry service for cars, bikes and people connecting Orakei Landing with Kennedy Point on Waiheke Island. We’re focussed on delivering a safer, closer and more environmentally friendly alternative to the current monopoly diesel powered services operated by Sealink (the red ferries).

We anticipate keen interest in and support for this proposal from both Waihekians and Aucklander’s passionate about improving access to and from this beautiful Island in a new electric ferry service - a first for Auckland".

Simon will explain this inspiring 'green' project and update on the February Public consultation and let us know if they received enough support to start planning for the inaugural cruise from Orakei Landing.  RSVP essential.  Please contact Robyn now with Yes or No.

THURDAY APRIL 14th - BREAKFAST MEETING:  GUEST SPEAKER TBA
