The Presidents' Pen

Co-Presidents St. Johns Rotary, Penny McGarry (Ph: 021 702 310), and Lesley Harris (Ph: 027 4935 498)

It was 'Top of the morning to you all' resplendent in the sea of GREEN celebrating St Patrick's Day. (Yes our own 'St Patrick' Bell was in the thick of it!)

Without a speaker forthcoming our Club Services Director had prepared a quiz reflecting all things' Irish. The winner was Penny 'MickGarry' and the wooden spoon went sadly to Isabella.

Our Sergeant Michelle, who avowed "trust me I'm Irish",  rewarded the best dressed Miles and the worst dressed Neil (had nothing green on his persona) and the runner up Peter Walsh for his Leprechaun green long socks, with Guinness, yes Beer at breakfast, whatever is Rotary coming to - It must be St Patrick's Day!! Michelle then tested our knowledge on you guessed it........ Guinness!

We enjoyed a breakfast of  Dr Seuss's "green eggs and ham' yes, the eggs were on request green and the breakfast and meeting was much enjoyed by all,

See you next week for more of the same!

Stories
Meeting in Review - March 17th 2022
24 members managed to dig into the costume chest and find a very varied range of green outfits or suitable alternatives.

Thanks to all for getting into the spirit of the day and kicking off St. Patricks Day on the right note.

A big thank you to Club Services Director Robyn, for putting together the Irish Quiz.  There have been some calls for fact checking some of the answers, but these calls are only coming from those who didn't win!

No new club notices were tabled, and any new notices will of course be shared at future meetings, or right here in your weekly Bulletin, so to remain up to date do try to attend as many meetings as possible and when you can't make the meeting be sure to read the Monday Bulletin for the latest news.

After the quiz and more fellowship Co-President Penny closed the meeting and shared with us the following quote, apt for the day.

"May your troubles be less and your blessings be more and nothing but happiness comes through your door."

Club Meetings and Other Important Dates
THURSDAY 24th MARCH - BREAKFAST MEETING - GUEST SPEAKER BRIAR LEITH:
About to start her last semester at AUT, Briar is on target to complete her BA majoring in International Relations and minoring in Public Relations. While studying, she has taken on a small international business with her partner called Brucha NZ that began in Mexico.  Briar will share her journey - how at age 15 an AFS scholarship to Argentina, her current studies and being a representative of kiwi and indigenous NZ culture have shaped her as a Global Citizen.  https://instagram.com/brucha_nz  (Rescheduled from February).  RSVP's required - please advise Robyn asap - now would be good.

THURSDAY  31st MARCH - BREAKFAST MEETING - SOMETHING A LITTLE BIT DIFFERENT;
Members are cordially invited to meet for fellowship, coffee and/or breakfast at this cafe:  Charlie and George, 4/40 Stonefields Avenue, Stonefields, from 7am.  Due to annual maintenance, the Golf Club will be closed from March 28 to April 1 and can't host us this week.

THURSDAY 7th APRIL - DINNER MEETING:  SIMON JONES:  Come and hear how Club Member Simon spends some of his time when not working with Dove Hospice.

"After several years developing and advocating for this proposal with Auckland Council, AT and Orakei Local Board it is exciting to commence public consultation (referencing our project) to establish a new electric ferry service for cars, bikes and people connecting Orakei Landing with Kennedy Point on Waiheke Island. We’re focussed on delivering a safer, closer and more environmentally friendly alternative to the current monopoly diesel powered services operated by Sealink (the red ferries).

We anticipate keen interest in and support for this proposal from both Waihekians and Aucklander’s passionate about improving access to and from this beautiful Island in a new electric ferry service - a first for Auckland".

Simon will explain this inspiring 'green' project and update on the February Public consultation and let us know if they received enough support to start planning for the inaugural cruise from Orakei Landing.

ONJA & Sam in the News
If you haven't already seen it, try to get your hands on a copy of last weeks Courier, March 16th, for a great story on our member Sam Lucas.  Many thanks to Keven K and John C for calling on their contacts to run the story, and of course a big thanks to Sam for doing such a great job with ONJA, and bringing this good publicity for our club to the fore.

Club Director Becomes Mother of the Bride - Again!
For the second time in a month, Mr. & Mrs Ingram gave away a daughter.  Last month it was daughter Alex who was married in Clevedon, and then last Saturday at Pauanui, or better known to locals as Paradise, daughter Danielle was given away when she married Police Officer, Chris Malatios.  The wedding was planned to be on the Beach with the breakfast at the renowned Puka Park, but according to the weather forecast, and up until scheduled kick-off time, the weather was very marginal.  However, as 3.00pm arrived the sun came out and it warmed up and as you can see from the photos below, it was a very happy day!!
HAG Sailing - Ohope
Club member Aubrey is currently on a road trip around Bay of Plenty and East Cape.  As he went through Ohope he spotted the very familiar HAG Sailing trailer.  It appears that HAG is once again underway and we look forward to our turn in May.

Safe Travels Aubrey.
Time For A Smile
They Walk Among Us:

My husband and I went through the Takeaway drive through window and I gave the
cashier a $5 bill. Our total was $4.25, so I also handed her 25c.

She said, 'you gave me too much money.'

I said, 'Yes I know, but this way you can just give me a dollar back.'

She sighed and went to get the manager who asked me to repeat my request.

I did so, and he handed me back the 25c, and said 'We're sorry but we don’t
do that kind of thing.'

The cashier then proceeded to give me back 75 cents in change.

Keep it simple!

 ----------------------------------------------------

We had to have the garage door repaired

The repairman told us that one of our problems was that we did not have a
'large' enough motor on the opener

I thought for a minute, and said that we had the largest one made at that
time, a 1/2 horsepower

He shook his head and said, 'You need a 1/4 horsepower.

I responded that 1/2 was larger than 1/4 and he said, 'NOOO, it's not. Four
is larger than two.'

We haven't used that repairman since...

------------------------------------------------------------------------------

I live in a semi - rural area.

We recently had a new neighbour call the local city council office to
request the removal of the DEER CROSSING sign on our road.

The reason: 'Too many deer are being hit by cars out here! I don't think
this is a good place for them to be crossing anymore.'
