Co-Presidents St. Johns Rotary, Gary Key (Ph: 021 611169), and Graham Fabian (Ph: 021 826292).
Greetings Members of Rotary Club of St Johns. First a big shout out to Hugh for stepping in to cover for the Poorly Co Presidents - thanks so much Hugh !!!!
Co Prez 1 out of ISO on Wednesday arrived back from Queenstown on Thursday pm, just in time to attend a Rotary Cluster Meeting at 5pm. Co Prez 2 locked in ISO until this Wednesday. Sign of the times but !!! “We'll be back” !!
Thanks for all the kind messages and support. See you all on Thursday.
Last week our current Co-Presidents, and last year’s Co-Presidents, were either incapacitated or away from Auckland for last weeks meeting. This required the Board to call on Past President Hugh to chair the meeting. Many thanks for standing up Hugh, and as we would expect, a well run meeting.
Hugh thanked all members for their support of the collection at New World last week for the GI CAB Food bank – another excellent orchestrated event.
Those Directors present were each asked for a brief report on recent and or past activity;
Liz – Community; A very successful Tree Planting undertaken in conjunction with Trees For Survival and Churchill Park School.
Peter B – Environment; Apirana Reserve has received a complete make-over of the land yet to be planted. Kiwi Rail (KR) provided a rather large digger (and driver), to level and prepare the area from where our last working bee ended up the hill, to the tunnel entry, an area extending in excess of 200 meters. This will allow for future plantings to be undertaken much sooner than originally anticipated. A huge thanks to KR and to members of our club who coordinated the work required with KR.
Beryl – Membership: prior to the club meeting on the 18th Beryl met with her team to discuss plans on how to get younger folk to join our club. An enthusiastic team with plenty of good ideas raised and discussed. Watch this space.
Aubrey - Quiz Night Friday October 14th: A plea was made to all members to purchase a table and/or individual seats for this key fund-raising event. Full details have been sent directly to all members, there was also a story in last week’s Bulletin, as there is again in this Bulletin. Please diary date today and contact Aubrey to book your table.
Following the Director's reports Beryl was invited to introduce Colin to talk about “Club Runner”, (CR), and the three primary Web Sites that we can access, all with the same password. i.e.
Rotary Club of St Johns
District 9920
Oceana
…and the Club Runner App
These three websites and the App. are simple to navigate around and have been designed to be simple tools for all members, to help them get the most out of Rotary, the planning and participating in projects, communicating with other Rotarians, and a very wide range of other Rotary information.
CR also contains individual profiles of all members, but for it to be beneficial to all it is essential that all profiles are current and accompanied by a relatively recent photograph of the member. St Johns members have not been overly diligent in keeping their profile current and Colin requested that all members take a few minutes to review and update their profile as soon as possible. If this is not done Colin may well find an appropriate cartoon character to insert in your profile in-lieu of a photo that, ideally, we would like for you to load.
Colin assured the meeting that the websites and CR are easy to navigate and an individual “can’t break them”, so do give it a go and do some surfing to see just how much interesting data is available, and if you get stuck, Colin is only an email or a phone call away and he is more than happy to assist.
THURSDAY AUGUST 25th BREAKFAST MEETING - GUEST SPEAKER - DG Allan Smith - Allan's talk will be all about Regionalisation and all you need to know. There has already been much written and published about Regionalisation, but now you get the chance to hear about it from the DG, and ask those questions you have been saving up for an opportunity such as this.
THURSDAY SEPTEMBER 1st DINNER MEETING - GUEST SPEAKERS - OUR RECENTLY GRADUATED RYLARIANS: Always a highlight on our speakers calendar . This year we sponsored five participants and all five will be present to share their experiences and how they see their future unfolding as a result of RYLA.
THURSDAY SEPTEMBER 8th - COMMITTEE MEETINGS. Attendance at these meetings is not only appreciated, but it's also essential to give all members the ability to have their say in regards to events, projects and activities that the club is or could become involved in.
THURSDAY SEPTEMBER 15th. REAKFAST MEETING - GUEST SPEAKER - Gary Lord, Auckland Mayoral Candidate. Gary will be the 4th Candidate who we have been fortunate enough to have speak to us and help members decide on who they will vote for in the upcoming Local Body Elections.
DG Allan will be visiting St. Johns Rotary on August 25th to share more information on the proposed Regional Pilot Programme. This past week, Co-President Gary received additional information and you may wish to review this prior to DG Allan's visit on Thursday.
Dear Club President,
You are receiving this message as the President of your Rotary Club because we want to ensure you are as informed as possible about an important action you are being asked to take in September this year.
We hope by now you have heard about the Regionalisation Pilot project in our part of the world and that you have either participated in a Zoom meeting or webinar or had a club meeting about it. This is a very important project for the future of Rotary. Our region includes Rotary and Rotaract clubs in Australia, New Zealand and 14 countries.
A team has been working for some time to establish a pilot to support our clubs to explore, develop and test a new model of governing and operating Rotary that is relevant for our region. The Rotary International Board has agreed to support our efforts, and this support is subject to our clubs voting to participate in this pilot. You as the President of your club will be asked to cast a vote on behalf of your club, whether you wish to participate in the pilot or not. This vote must reflect the views of your members.
The clock's ticking and we are now only 7 weeks away from our Quiz Night.
This is one of our few major fund raising events of the year, and as we have missed the last two years, it is essential that we make this one a winner!!
Full details are clear on the attached flyer - just click on "Read More" to see this.
All that you need to do right now is;
Book your table of 10 and invite your best mates to join you at your potential winning table.
Donate Silent Auction items - these can be any item that is capable of triggering the audience to identifying the item as something that they must have, and will have them digging deep into their pockets, bidding high, thinking that they are getting a great deal, while helping us raise funds for our array of Youth Programmes.
With a small attendance it was difficult for Sergeant Patrick to fleece his audience of too much, but even so, $44 was collected. Not enough to break through the $5,000 in the fund, but the fund now stands at $4,967. Maybe this week we will breakthrough the $5,000 balance.
The Fund balance is is now sitting at $4,967. If any member would like to nominate a needy cause to receive a donation from the Sunshine Fund, don't forget to send your proposal to Sergeant Patrick, along with a brief justification supporting the request.
This is for the information of all members of the Rotary Club of St. John's. If you have any questions do not hesitate to contact Co-President Gary.

Dear President
Reflecting the new Privacy Act of 2020, the District has updated the Privacy Policy document in accordance with the new Act and is now available for adoption by all Clubs in the District.

Also every Club is under the Privacy Act 2020 to appoint a Privacy Officer who is responsible for the Club’s management of the Privacy Information. You will see at the bottom of the Policy, reference to the Privacy Officer being the contact person.
It is envisaged each Club will also now amend its membership application form to record within it something like:
“I authorise pursuant to the Club’s Privacy Policy as attached to the Application, the collection, use and disclosure of my personal information in accordance with the principles of the Privacy Act 2020”.
