The Presidents Pen

Co-Presidents St. Johns Rotary, Gary Key (Ph: 021 611169), and Graham Fabian (Ph: 021 826292).

Good morning, (Sunday) fellow Rotarians, what a fantastic result from our last project of the year - Food Bank Collection at New World, Lunn Ave, resulting in 80 boxes collected!!!  Huge thanks to Hugh and Graham for organising and to the 16 members who manned the four shifts.

Our last meeting is this Thursday so please let’s have a great turn out.  Miles has done an epic job in coordinating the Raffle which is so important to boast our Club funds.  We ask that if you have any unsold tickets please bring them on Thursday—we know there will be very few as you have all done such a great job selling them !!!  Any tickets not handed in on Thursday will be charged to the Club Member concerned—sorry to be so pointed but we really do need to have maximum dollar return.

To those who attended our last Thursday Christmas dinner, thank you for your effort. Lesley and Penny did a great job coordinating the dressing of the room. What a pleasure it was to hear from Pauline Vandebroek, the Glendowie College Foreign Exchange student, who did a great job addressing us and telling her story!!!!

Don’t forget to register for the Conference - it’s going to be a Fantastic Event !!!!
We look forward to seeing you ALL on Thursday for our last meeting of the year, as discussed and advised on Thursday we also need to ratify a change in our Constitution which has been highlighted by Bruce Howe as under:-

Those who were not able to attend, the notice sets out the reason for the change in constitution. It is to ensure we are compliant with an IRD ruling regarding members/officers benefiting financially from any liquidation of the club. We have also used this opportunity to amend the requirement for an auditor (as we have not had the club accounts audited for moons.)  Using Bruce Howe provides adequate protection in addition to oversight by the board.”

Meeting In Review - Dec 1st 2022
32 members and guests gathered at the Remuera Golf Club for a delicious Christmas Dinner.  It was an evening of fellowship as the year comes to an end, but there were a few club notices that need to be shared.

Co-President Gary reported on his attendance at Glendowie College for the annual prize giving.  Gary presented the Peter McKenzie Memorial Scholarship for Accounting and was amazed at the value of awards and scholarships presented on the day, which exceeded $260,000!

Miles advised that 142 raffle tickets have now been sold and paid for.  The remaining 58 tickets are in circulation with members and these now need to be sold or handed back to Miles asap for redistribution or sold.  Plans are in place for the draw to take place at the GI Police Station on Dec 14.

Lesley, Co-Director Club Services advised nothing new to report/

Liz Co-Director Community advised that we are looking for a member to represent the RCSTJ at one of our sponsored school prize giving next Monday 5th week.  Interested members please contact Kevin asap,

Director Environment Peter B advised that there will be a morning tea recognition for all club members who have participated in Apirana Reserve activity - see separate story below.

Co-President Gary call for a show of hands of members who have registered for Conference.  Each week the numbers keeps growing - well done to all members, maybe a 100% attendance is possible!!

Co-President Graham advised members that there is a need to amend one small clause in our constitution and he alerted all members that specific details will be heading their way this weekend.  Please watch out for it.

Prior to Dinner we were treated to a few words from a guest from Belgium.  Pauline Vander Brockis is an 18 year old student in New Zealand for 12 months, studying at Glendowie College and staying in the area with a family on a Home Stay basis.

Pauline has always wanted to visit New Zealand, but as the Rotary Youth Exchange programme has been suspended she needed to plan and implemented her own exchange.  We wish you well Pauline and hopefully you will be able to visit with us again during your year at Glendowie.

A few pics follows of the members enjoying their Christmas dinner and heaps of fellowship.

Club Raffle
The number of sales continues to grow, but the clock is ticketing and the time to sell all tickets is closing in!

To date we have sold over 130 tickets, but there are still plenty to be sold.  Most of the unsold tickets are in books distributed to members, but details of sales have not yet been captured.

If you are sitting on tickets yet to be sold - now is the time that we need you to turn unsold tickets into "SOLD"

To those members who have sold tickets - thank you!  To those who have not yet sold all tickets in your possession - closing a sale now and returning payment to Miles would be much appreciated.

This is an important fundraiser for the club so we need everybody to get behind this.

Many thanks

Subject: A Royal Invitation  -  Apirana Reserve  -  18th December

Not often you get one of those, so incredibly important to make the most of it.   Yes, you are cordially invited ( That's boring because it's actually compulsory), to a shortish morning tea / picnic at the Apirana Reserve in Glen Innes on Sunday the 18th December from 10 a.m. to 12 noon.

This is an invite only affair, and is being sent to all those wonderful people who over the past 2 years have given freely of their time to help make the reserve the beautiful place it is today, and we feel we need to celebrate that - however, if you wish to bring someone, wives, husbands, lovers, children, neighbours or friends they would be so welcome.   I'm bound to have left someone off the list so please spread the word.

So          :   Sunday 18th December at the Apirana Reserve, Glen Innes.   Diarise it now !
Dress     :   Optional, but if you don't have one you can wear pants.
Bring     :    Something to drink, a small plate of something, and something to sit on.    In other words 3 x somethings.
Weather:   We will not go ahead if the weather is inclement, and will leave it to your good selves to make the call.

Really hope you can make it and would love to see you there.  Gary and Peter could you please let the rest of SJR know.

Nga mihi nui

Nanda, Roger and Ken"

If you  are able to join in the celebration and the fellowship - please RSVP to Peter B. at your earliest convenience!
