No doubt you have all heard of the devastating fires in Lake Ohau Otago, these last few days, and the horrific loss of property including dozens of homes.  Unfortunately one of the homes totally destroyed by the fires belonged to Honorary Member David Stone and his wife Jill. The Stones where asleep when a knock on the door in the middle of the night woke them and told them to evacuate immediately, which they did. They were left with nothing but what they were dressed in at the time, but fortunately no injuries. Luckily David and Jill have a second home in Omaha where they can stay and recover while their Lake Ohau house is rebuilt. Over the last 24 hours David has communicated with several members. An excerpt from one of the emails stated, "Yes all gone. Hey, but we got out on time as did everyone by helping each other. We are unharmed and together. We thought it might go past us but it didn’t. Appreciate your message. Rotary people have been superb Helpers Catch up one day" St Johns Rotary members send their best wishes to David and Jill Stone at this difficult time. |
