Lovely to have such a strong turnout for our first meeting back last week 😊 and to have many of our Club Leadership presenting on what we have coming up in the next six months; along with a bit of fun. We all value your support and feedback.
This week’s featured speaker is Jan from Dove Hospice. Our club has close connections with Dove Hospice and has been actively looking at further ways to offer support. Also, safely back from his travels is Golf-Guru (?) David Hartstone who will catch us up on his latest golf adventure.
Still rejuvenated (thanks Sergeant Miles) and ready, I look forward to seeing you all again on Thursday morning.
Our first meeting of the year attracted 28 members and all were warmly welcomed by "Rejuvenated Robyn".
Our speakers on the day were Board Members who shared some thoughts of their vision for the next 12 months. Some sound bites from the various speakers, follow;
President Robyn spoke to our major events and fundraising commitments over the next 6 months; namely the Golf Tournament March 16th, Quiz Night - date to be confirmed and the District Conference in May.
Muriel shared with the meeting an overview of the "Strategy Meeting" that the Board had scheduled for Saturday Feb 15th which would look at building on past success and capitalise on our strong culture.
As Director Membership, Donald shared with us that the Membership Committee meet every month and are focusing on how to benefit from the results of last years survey, current and future Social Media Promos focused on attracting new members, and the role all members have in introducing potential new members.
As Officer responsible for Fellowship Activities and knowing that these are welcomed events by club members, Michelle advised that some of the activities being considered are; Walks, trips to Tiritiri Matangi and Rotora Islands, Cruise to Riverhead, Bowling evening and Michelle indicated that she is open to any ideas so if you do have one that you think members will enjoy, please talk to Michelle.
Hugh, PE, is already immersed in Club activities and is keen to start his new year in July, up and running. In the Rotary Year 2020 / 2021, Hugh will be promoting a culture in the club that everyone is comfortable with. Saturday's strategy session will help form a guide to the direction he will follow. He is also keen to see that our future will be about our community.
...and of course no good meeting would be complete without a Sargent's session designed to empty the pockets of all present and Miles commenced the year accordingly!
Janine's area of expertise is the service Dove Hospice provides, so she will outline what Dove Hospice have been doing and their intentions for 2020 and how we, as a club, can assist.
Also speaking this morning in the Snap Chat spot will be David Hartstone with an update on our upcoming Golf Tournament". For full details on how members can assist with what is our largest fund raising event of the year, read the next story below, but more important, please attend this breakfast for an update on the status from David.

RYE - It's that time of the year when activities begin to ramp up to attract potential candidates for next years programme. To kick the activity off there will be an information evening as per the detail in the flyer below.
One of the most ideal sources of nominations is the Rotary membership and accordingly we encourage all members to pass this info on to any family, friends and acquaintances who may be suitable participants. Thanks!
Although it is still several months away, we have already begun the selection process and this will be completed over the next month. Accordingly we now need your help to identify potential candidates, either those that could be sponsored by our club, or others who would be sponsored by Corporate Partners.
To date we potentially have 6 nominations, but these folk need to be interviewed and selected, and we are looking for at least another 6 nominations to ensure that we have a solid base of candidates to choose from.
Have any questions? Know of any potential candidates? Please contact Tom Street at your earliest convenience.
Here's a great opportunity for club members to further strengthen the ties between our club and one of our assigned schools, Sacred Heart College!
Business mentors URGENTLY needed. Are you a business person (current or retired), who would like to share your amazing skills and business knowledge by being involved in an exciting opportunity to mentor Year 13 students to make a success of their Young Enterprise business?
The amount of involvement / time commitment, is varied. However, on average you would meet with your business team once a month, until October. The schools numbers in Business Studies are growing really fast, so they need YOU!
Sacred Heart College will participate again in the Lion Foundation Young Enterprise Scheme in 2020. As part of this programme they have to produce and take to market a product of their choice. Please visit this link for further information. If you are prepared to help these Sacred College young men in 2020 please email Mrs Sonia Collins scollins@sacredheart.school.nz
Club Members have been invited to attend the "Official Blessing" of the new school buildings. If you are interested in attending please RSVP immediately.
A Couple of Golf Jokes as we head towards our Golf Tournamentt!
Paddy was frustrated because he has hit numerous fat shots. In his frustration, he told Murphy, his caddy, “I would move heaven and earth just to make a hundred."
To which Murphy replied, “Try heaven, Paddy. You have already moved most of the earth.”
...and;
"How was your golf game, dear?" asked Jack's wife Tracy. "Well, I was hitting pretty well, but my eyesight's gotten so bad I couldn't see where the ball went." "But you're seventy-five years old, Jack!" admonished his wife, "Why don't you take my brother Scott along?"
"But he's eighty-five and doesn't even play golf anymore," protested Jack. "But he's got perfect eyesight. He could watch your ball," Tracy pointed out. The next day Jack teed off with Scott looking on. Jack swung, and the ball disappeared down the middle of the fairway. "Do you see it?" asked Jack. "Yup," Scott answered. "Well, where is it?" yelled Jack, peering off into the distance. "I forget."
