Guest Speakers:

Today we were priviledged to hear from Dr. Graeme Kidd and Stephanie Forde from Dove Hospice.

Stephanie is the Clinical Manager of the Integrated Care Team and provides Medical Counselling and specialised medical input into Dove’s Palliative Care and Respite Unit.  Dr. Graeme is a GP in Howick with a special interest in Palliative care and metaphysics who has worked for Dove for 15 years.

Dove's services are very patient centred to support and enhance any conventional treatments people may be receiving, while aiming to promote emotional and spiritual wellbeing. With a strong focus on holistic wellness, they include whanau, carers and those who are bereaved.

At Dove Wing, the inpatient unit, they provide quality palliative care for those requiring respite and end of life care.

At Dove House a team of experienced, professional and caring Nurses, Psychotherapists, Body Therapists and Medical Staff support and empower people as they navigate their, or their loved ones, illness pathway.  They provide a range of wellness and supportive therapies and programmes to ensure patients and their families manage this challenging time in the best way possible.

Dove House also offers Individual, Couple and Family Counselling.  Spending time with an experienced counsellor can enable deeper understanding among family members. This can encourage the development of effective strategies for coping with the many pressures that illness creates.

Services are provided at no charge to patients or their family.  Dove Hospice and Wellbeing receives no direct government support.  It is funded by income from the Dove Hospice Shops, fundraising, donations, grants and bequests.

St. Johns Rotary have proudly been alongside Dove since the beginning.  Not only assisting with fundraising, when required, but over the years we have had numerous club members holding positions on the board and their first Patron was, of course, Isabella Tedcastle.

Friday: Foundation Dinner and charity auction
Saturday: Conference
Saturday: Past District Governor Cocktail Hour
Saturday: Awards Dinner

A Chance For The Holiday You Deserve
The number of sales continues to grow, but the clock is ticketing and the time to sell all tickets is closing in!

To date we have sold over 130 tickets, but there are still plenty to be sold.  Most of the unsold tickets are in books distributed to members, but details of sales have not yet been captured.

If you are sitting on tickets yet to be sold - now is the time that we need you to turn unsold tickets into "SOLD"

To those members who have sold tickets - thank you!  To those who have not yet sold all tickets in your possession - closing a sale now and returning payment to Miles would be much appreciated.

This is an important fundraiser for the club so we need everybody to get behind this.

Many thanks

Time For A Smile
There’s always a work around where money is involved ……

There were two brothers who were really close – but also really, really bad all the way through their lives. They did every rotten thing you could think of causing upset and fear to everyone they knew and came into contact with.
Then, one day, one of the brothers suddenly fell ill and died.
The surviving brother went to his local priest; and, although neither brother had ever attended church, he asked the priest if he would speak at his brother’s funeral as there was no-one else who would.   The priest, at first, was hesitant as he knew the bad things both brothers had done throughout their lives. His first thought was to refuse; but he relented in the spirit of the Christian belief in forgiveness and agreed
“One request” said the surviving brother, really pushing his luck. “I don’t care what sort of service you conduct or what sort of tribute you pay my brother when you speak about him;  but I want you to call him a saint.”
The priest was horrified and recoiled at the thought.
But before he could answer, the brother quickly added that he would donate a sizeable sum of money from their ill-gotten gains to the church if he would. And he named the not insubstantial amount.
The priest thought about it for a few minutes and then finally agreed. Money upfront.
The brother paid the priest the large sum and the date was set for the funeral.
On that day, the church quickly filled up – more than it had ever done. It was full and overflowing. But it was made up entirely of people who were rejoicing in the death of the man and revelling in the suffering that his brother was enduring.
When it came time to speak about him, the priest stood before the gathered congregation. He turned towards the coffin and spoke.
“Before you, you see a man in a coffin who was rotten, through and through. He did every nasty, horrible, vicious, mean, debauched thing you could ever imagine. He was the manifestation of pure evil and nastiness.  He was a true rotter - rotten to his core.”
The priest paused and looked around.  The congregation gasped.  The brother sat shocked – mouth open.
“But,” continued the priest, “compared to his brother, he was a saint.”
