Guest Speakers: Today we were priviledged to hear from Dr. Graeme Kidd and Stephanie Forde from Dove Hospice. Stephanie is the Clinical Manager of the Integrated Care Team and provides Medical Counselling and specialised medical input into Dove’s Palliative Care and Respite Unit. Dr. Graeme is a GP in Howick with a special interest in Palliative care and metaphysics who has worked for Dove for 15 years. Dove's services are very patient centred to support and enhance any conventional treatments people may be receiving, while aiming to promote emotional and spiritual wellbeing. With a strong focus on holistic wellness, they include whanau, carers and those who are bereaved. At Dove Wing, the inpatient unit, they provide quality palliative care for those requiring respite and end of life care. At Dove House a team of experienced, professional and caring Nurses, Psychotherapists, Body Therapists and Medical Staff support and empower people as they navigate their, or their loved ones, illness pathway. They provide a range of wellness and supportive therapies and programmes to ensure patients and their families manage this challenging time in the best way possible. Dove House also offers Individual, Couple and Family Counselling. Spending time with an experienced counsellor can enable deeper understanding among family members. This can encourage the development of effective strategies for coping with the many pressures that illness creates. Services are provided at no charge to patients or their family. Dove Hospice and Wellbeing receives no direct government support. It is funded by income from the Dove Hospice Shops, fundraising, donations, grants and bequests. St. Johns Rotary have proudly been alongside Dove since the beginning. Not only assisting with fundraising, when required, but over the years we have had numerous club members holding positions on the board and their first Patron was, of course, Isabella Tedcastle. |
