GROWING ROTARY CLUBS & MEMBERS: Two gatherings to promote how this can be achieved are scheduled for August 14th and 15th. See separate story below ("Lets Grow Rotary Together"), and register on-line now! Guest Speaker: Kevin Kevany. Kevin and Deb recently travelled to Europe and the UK, primarily to attend their sons wedding in Sicily. Prior to ending up in Italy for the wedding, they undertook a leisurely road trip around Southern England. Apart from their bags not arriving in London until five days after they did, and the significant costs to rent cars and for hotel accommodation, in this post COVID Lockdown period, they had a lovely trip together, (and they are still together), visiting and staying in the following places; - London, Kew Gardens, Windsor (for the Jubilee and observing Surfing Swans on the lake, celebrating Kevin's birthday in the Cotswolds, playing with fire on the night of the lighting of the Jubilee Beacons, Cornwall, Plymouth, Port Issacs (Doc Martin territory), St. Neot. It was then on to Sicily where they visited Taormian, Aperitivo, Avola, Noto and Augusta, one of the areas the Allied Landings took place in WW11. The wedding was held in stunning surroundings, under very expensive outdoor lighting and, despite a nasty venue host, they had a wonderful time. Not only at the wedding but at their villa in Augusta where they spent a week before and a week after the wedding, enjoying the company of the extended family, the sun, the food and ,of course, the wine!
Kevin was admirably assisted with his talk by Deb in the wings, there to ensure that Kevin didn't drink or waffle too much. Thank you Deb and thank you also for the slideshow, an excellent presentation. Kevin finished off by advising the club that next time he is asked to speak, if he's not the first to be invited, there is no way he will be second, let alone third stand-in :) :) Surely he was just joking - we can't believe that he would ever turn down an opportunity to speak to a crowd!! The two photos below are taken from Deb's slide show. You may even catch a shot of Kevin Dancing, wearing the same shirt a month later, when he spoke to us on the 4th!! |
