President Hugh and our Guest Speaker both submitted their apologies for the meeting. However, that didn't stop the 24 members who were in attendance from enjoying the occasion, the company, the fellowship and the food . IPP Robyn stood in for President Hugh and member Neil Robinson stepped in at the last minute to update the meeting on his whereabouts and activity for the last year or two. First the Club Notices; - Food Box packing for the Salvation Army - Tuesday October 27th, tomorrow. There is still time for members to support this project. If you could assist between 10 am and 2 pm please contact IPP Robyn.
- Next weeks offsite meeting at the Mens' Shed and our dinner meeting on November 5th, both events will be stand-out meetings, but please remember to RSVP to IPP Robyn for catering purposes, as soon as possible.
- The club was recently made aware of the challenges being experienced by some families from Sacred Heart College, where lost employment is causing hardship for them. Once again our club has stepped in to assist with a $500 food voucher - you can buy a lot of meat for $500, particularly when the Mad Butcher, Glen Innes, contributed to the need by extending a really great discount. The Mad Butcher also pre-packaged and froze the meat for the College – making it easy for them to store in their school freezer, ready for distribution with the dry food stuffs already on hand. What hasn't been needed at this time will be distributed to needy school families at Christmas, and needless to say the recipients where extremely appreciative of our generosity.
Our Stand-in Guest Speaker, club member Neil Robinson then took to the stage and shared with us a few details regarding what had been keeping him busy for the last year or two. Neil is a Consultant for "Intent" and his most recent work has been for "Westland Milk Production", based on the Westcoast. His week normally starts with a 3.30 am wakeup followed by a flight to Christchurch then connecting to a flight to Hokitka, and all going well ,he is on the job around 9.30 am. His primary role has revolved around "Productivity and Difficiency in Factories" and Neil gave a good overview of the work involved as well as sharing with us his thoughts of the Westcoast, the Coaster, the Pubs, the weather and the Labour workforce. Westland is now 100% owned by China as are many other Milk Factories around the country. Many thanks again Neil for stepping up at such short notice - much appreciated. KEV's CANDID PHOTO ALBUM: |
