In Sergeant Patrick's absence, stand in Sergeant John Cornaga introduced Co President Gary who chaired the meeting, leading off with club notices from Treasurer and Directors: Co-Chairman / Treasurer Graham, formally gave notice of the upcoming AGM which will be held during this week's breakfast meeting on Thursday November 24th. This AGM relates to the Rotary Year ending June 30, 2022. Please see further details on AGM below. While on his feet - Graham updated members on some financial data; - The club funds are close to breaking-even thanks to the additional "room hire" levy now being collected on a regular basis,
- Due to the success of the Quiz Night the club is again back in a good financial position and able to meet the costs of our Youth Programme commitments,
- Club members have committed to donating $4,150 to the Rotary Foundation. This amount will be topped-up by the club to enable a total club contribution of $6,000.
- The club has also donated $1,000 to the latest End Polio Now event, being the Ride The Train event earlier this month.
Director Environment - Peter B thanked all who participated in last week's Apirana Reserve Working Bee, which consisted of moving recently delivered mulch around recent plantings. Directors Youth & Community - Liz & Kevin - Thanks was extended to all members who participated in the Ruapotaka School sand-pit project.
- The club now only has 6 Xmas Puddings left to sell this year. If you have not already purchased one, please contact Christie or Kevin asap.
- We will shortly be presenting winning schools with the Junior Citizen awards and Kevin & Liz are looking for members to volunteer to represent St Johns Rotary at the upcoming year-end prize-giving events.
Directors Club Services - Penny & Lesley - advised all is well, but we are on the hunt for guest speakers to talk at meetings next year. Any ideas to either Penny or Lesley. Other notices and updates of various activities are covered off later in this Bulletin. Guest Speaker, Stuart McEwan: Stuart is a new member and was keen to share with club members more details about his role in the community with YBNZ, (Youth Basketball New Zealand). Basketball is currently the second most popular sport played by secondary school pupils in New Zealand, and next year it is expected to be number one and accordingly YBNZ will be focusing on school basketball programmes for these students. Stuart also wanted to thank St Johns Rotary for the support over the past two years which he hopes this will continue again next year, A very informative talk which lead into a good Q & A and it was apparent from the discussion following that there would be support from club members for the RCSTJ to get more involved, and the Board will work with members and Stuart to explore what these could be. Members who missed the talk and presentation are encouraged to contact Stuart should they require additional information. Following Stuart's talk there was still time for very brief Committee Meetings and below are summaries of the meeting notes; Liz & Kevin - Community and Youth: - The Schools Citizenship Awards: people are happy to help out and attend these at schools when they are able, depending on the dates
- Xmas pudding drive: Please contact Christie, or in his absence Kevin, if you can take a pudding or two off our hands. Huge thanks to Christie for his ongoing commitment to this money maker for the club.
- Dictionaries in Schools: this is likely to be caught up at the beginning of next year, as well as end of 2023 school year.
Penny & Lesley - Club Services: - All club members are encouraged to suggest guest speakers for next year.
- The last meeting for the year will be a Breakfast Meeting on December 8th
- The first meeting in 2023 will be a Breakfast Meeting on February 2nd
- The first Dinner Meeting in 2023 will be on February 9th.
Peter B - Environment: - No new activity planned for this year, but watch for news of new activity in the new year!
