On Thursday evening 3 November, former Auckland City councillor for the St Heliers ward, Toni Millar JP QSM was sworn in as a new member of the Orakei Local Board of the now-combined Auckland Council. The very formal inaugural meeting saw Toni, an ex-President of the RCOSJ, propose and have accepted a motion for the chairmanship to be shared by Colin Davis and Kit Parkinson, each serving 18-months of the three-year term. Former chair of the Local Board and now serving councillor, Desley Simpson, represented the new mayor Phil Goff at the function.
Toni established a reputation on the Transport Committee of the previous council. Her expertise is expected to be very valuable in sorting the choked Orakei ward, which is yet to have a bus service to train stations in the area.
Tom Street and Kevin Kevany were special invitees to the event.
