Jaspreet is passion about working with youth and in particular, how to inspire young people. Having attended RYLA in 2015, the learning outcome for Jaspreet was self-empowerment. Together as a team effect leadership can be achieved even by the smallest initiatives which can have positive impacts.  Jaspreet attended Manurewa High School and currently is completing his medical training.
 
Amazing Race
Funding was provided from the Ministry of Youth Development to get young people to come up with ideas. Jaspreet said to get youth involved it needs to be fun so a variety of first aid stations were set up.  They also had a $100.00 budget to come up with a healthy eating plan of three meals and this was donated to South Auckland Christian organisation. Also with a budget of $250.00 the young people created stationary packs for the students of Manurewa High School.
Jaspreet said the focus has been on different needs in the Indian community.  For example, water competency is an issue with Indian people unable to swim. They approached Auckland Water Safety and organised four separate female and male water safety sessions along with beach safety with life guards.  Jaspreet said this is an example of an organisational leadership programme that teaches youth to be able to teach their own.
Auckland City Mission
The average age the Mission cares for 15 years old. For one month the cooked for 120 people at Auckland City Mission. It was sponsored by the community and also assisted the Auckland City Mission Distribution Centre.
Manurewa Health Expo 2016
The focus of this was on physical health issues such as diabetes and mental health and in particular how to access the New Zealand health system. For attendees there was a prize of 50% return air ticket to India. Youth said that the key leadership traits are credibility and competency.
 
Turban Day
A Turban day was held to reveal the real Sikh! There were over 200 different turbans with the purpose to share their cultural values with others. It also discussed prevention of bullying and discrimination as being a Sikh is a big part of their identity.  The Turban Day even made international news in the ‘The Times of India’!
 
National Student Global Awareness (NSGA)
Jaspreet is an active member of NSGA to raise awareness over a number issues such as healthy housing through NZ Medical Student Association.  The group organised workshops in how to contact and work with their local MPs and providing mentorship programmes at Manurewa High School.  A future youth camp is planned for in October with the theme of building confidence and relationship in young people.
