Well done Ainie!!

As our meeting was primarily a Committee Project Planning our Editor will summarise the individual key points from the Directors.

 Kind regards

RYPEN:
Last weekend RYPEN 2023 was held and St. Johns member at large, Ainie Kwok, once again worked her magic and organised another very successful Event.  Ainie was a guest at our meeting last Thursday, along with two of her trained RYPEN Leaders, Tia and Josh who, together with two other trained leaders, will take over the organisation and running of RYPEN from Ainie who has been at the forefront of RYPEN for the last 7 years.

Well done Ainie and thanks sincerely from St. Johns Rotary and District 9200.  See thank you note from Ainie below.
Club Meeting Dates
THURSDAY APRIL 6th - BREAKFAST MEETING - GUEST SPEAKERS:  HELEN SARGENT AND ANA KENNEDY, from "Heart 4 KIDS".  Helen will explain what they do, including their recent mission to Fiji.  Each year in the Pacific, 350 children are born with congenital heart disease.  Unfortunately, they have limited access to life saving surgery.  How can we help?  Ana Kennedy is a Nurse Practitioner and is leader of the ward nursing team.  Ana has twenty years experience as a nurse practitioner both in the US and NZ.

THURSDAY APRIL 13th - DINNER MEETING - GUEST SPEAKER MICHELLE BRINSDEN - EASTERN BAYS BIRDSONG PROJECT.  Michelle is a Senior Conservation Advisor at Auckland Council, and co-ordinates the Eastern Bays Songbird Project Inc., which aims to restore and regenerate the natural ecosystems of the Eastern Bays to create a sanctuary alive with birds, enhancing the lives of our residents and visitors.

To achieve this, they mobilise the community to take action both on their properties and in local open spaces to provide environments where populations of birds and invertebrates can flourish, They work with local people and organisations already trapping pests and encourage and coordinate the local community to trap throughout the residential areas. This project will contribute significantly and be integral to Pest Free Auckland 2050 and Predator Free New Zealand by 2050.

THURSDAY APRIL 20th.  ANZAC THEMED BREAKFAST MEETING.  Full details to follow.

Save The Date
One of the most important dates in the Rotary Year is "Change-over".

The 2023 Change-over for St. Johns Rotary is scheduled for Thursday June 22nd - an evening dinner.  Recogniseing our current Co-Presidents and the Board for all they have achieved this past year, and to welcome in the new President and Board, deserves a good turn-out.

More information and detail to come, but in the meantime please note this in your diary now!! THANK YOU

Bangers to Bluff
Team Andiamo has arrived successfully and safely in Bluff following the Bangers to Bluff Rally, having travelled 3,052.8 kms!

Despite the weather, numerous Cook Strait Ferry sailing cancellations, the intrepid Robinsons / Team Andiamo, or to some known as Colin & Beryl, have completed the challenge. Along with many others, they have raised thousands of dollars for selected Charities.  Colin & Beryl send a huge thanks to St. Johns Rotary for the amazing support. The team will do a presentation on the rally at some stage in the near  future.

Snap Chat
Our Sargent has requested that once again we would like to hear what our members are up to.  This week new member Grace has drawn the short straw and we look forward to hearing what Grace is currently up in her life outside of Rotary, in this two minute slot at Thursday's meeting.

Subject: RYPEN Thanks

Hello all

The students have had a great experience at RYPEN Camp and I would like to thank Clubs that have supported the students to attend the Camp.

I would encourage clubs to follow up with the school and arrange for the students to visit your club and report back their experiences at RYPEN.

At the same time too, you may like to extend the invitation to the team leaders themselves.

These leaders, apart from two of them, are not members of any Rotary Clubs. All of them are past RYLArians from 2018 through to current RYLA cohorts 2022.

They are potentially future members of any Rotary Clubs. Whilst they are at this stage, not engaged with any Clubs, it is in our best interest to keep these groups of young leaders that come together every year for the last 6 years to help run the RYPEN program together with me.

It is always a pleasure for me to have them deliver the RYPEN program and each year, the Leadership Team develop amazing strategies to make it even better.

Special mention of thanks for the weekend:
·       Team leaders were past RYLA awardees from 2018 to 2022
·       George Wilson, RC Papakura with transport and an integral part of the District Youth Committee
·       Peter Ross, District 9920 Youth Chair

With best wishes,
Ainie Kwok
