At our first meeting of the year, there were 16 members present and one guest, Pauline from Belgium. The meeting started with the introduction of "Clarence the Cone". Clarence is a cone (a traffic cone which was on the table just as a joke!) Gary said that we need to learn from the recent disasters, and help people who need help as we all know someone who was affected by the floods. CLUB NOTICES: Golf Day: David advised that the event was nearly all sold out and the organising team are happy with planning to date. There is still the ability to sponsor if anyone wants to, or knows someone who wants to. We acknowledged Graham Fabian’s participation again and we all agreed it is amazing. More volunteers are required - please contact Lesley if you can help on the day. District Conference - March 31 - April 1st: To date there are 60 registered, (15 from St. Johns), and we need to have close to 250 to make budget. Remember our club is the sponsor (underwriter) for this event and we have to all contribute to make sure we have a successful event. David H and Allan S are about to start visiting as many clubs as possible in the District, with a presentation to encourage further registrations. This presentation will be shared at next week’s dinner meeting. Apirana Reserve - 12 February: Picnic as detailed in last weeks Bulletin has been cancelled. See separate story below. Apirana Reserve Mulching Day: at Apirana February 19th. Flood Relief: Penny has been helping and she advised that the Facebook page worked well to get donations. They still need blankets and food so if you can help, contact Penny and she will advise you where to drop off. Salvation Army: Angus noted that a big thank you to Gary was appropriate. He has put in many hours with his grand kids to help out with the food bank over the holidays. Gary said it is great for networking and he enjoyed it. Book Fair: Miles and Aubrey have put in many hours at the Barfoot & Thompson stadium preparing storage areas getting ready for the next book fair. You can drop off books at the stadium all year round for the fair. Last year 6 from the club helped out and earned $900 for the club. The book fair is a project that takes all year to organize. Monday 13 February: Pauline from Belgium will be at the club for lunch with her parents. If you would like to join them for lunch let Gary know. Planning for bus trip to Coopers Creek Vine Yard February 26th: Opportunity to sit back and listen to music and taste a little wine. More details to follow. Many thanks to Lynette B. for recording notes from the 2nd Feb meeting in the Editors absence. |
